Even though this technique is used in the Caribbean islands, its roots are much stronger in artists from Haiti. This style is described as the production of pieces by people with no artistic instruction (also known as "Sunday painters"), who are naive, instinctive, or autodidacts. In fact, they just let their imagination fly in front of the fabric without taking into account basic art concepts like perspective, proportions, chromatic scale, balance, or chiaroscuro.
